Minorville, a cityscape that makes up the profile of recording artist Derek Minor, was a project that took a lot of planning and legwork to execute. We started with an overhead grid of the shapes, where I then took the "map" into Rhino and rendered a 3D model of the city, so that we could experiment with the different building heights and really get a sense of the mass variation, before we sent measurements to the woodworker. Once the blocks were created, we set up the city and experimented with various lighting apparatuses to pull out the shadows that we wanted.*
